What is Peer Review?

Adding New Perspectives & Welcoming Improvement to your Work

  • Peer review is when your work is evaluated by others in your field or peers with the goal to help you do your best work.

  • It's like getting feedback from friends or classmates but on a more structured and professional level.

  • Today, we will use guiding questions to support reviewers - what should I look for?

4

Why is Peer Review Important?

  • It helps improve the quality of your work.

  • Provides valuable feedback for growth and learning.

  • Encourages critical thinking and collaboration.

  • Engages you in discussion about what you're learning to help you learn the material deeper.

  • Is there any information that doesn’t fit with the driving question? The claims?

  • Why did you decide to analyze your sources like that?

  • Do you think the analysis is accurate?

  • Do you think their claim fits with what we know about the limbic and endocrine systems?

  • Do you think their interpretation is reasonable?

  • What do you think they should have done differently?

  • What do you think they did well?

  1. Give 5 minutes of time for the reviewers to read your research writing.

  2. Present your driving question, the claims for each section of your essay, the evidence, and justification.

  3. State any limitations you experienced during your research

    1. (EX: Absent for the CEA lesson in Humanities B and could use more practice).
