Poem Structure

Lines: a unit of language into which a poem is divided.



Stanza: a group of lines forming the basic unit in a poem. 

(AKA -a paragraph in a poem)

Elements of Poetry

 Rhyme Scheme:

   - Definition: The pattern of rhymes at the end of each line.

   - Example: AABB (where the first two lines rhyme with each other, and the next two lines rhyme with each other).


Meter:

   - Definition: The rhythmic pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry.

Repetition:

   - Definition: The repeated use of words, phrases, or lines for emphasis.

Elements of Poetry

Tone - The tone in poetry is like the author's attitude or feelings toward the subject.


Theme - The theme is the main idea or message that the poet wants to communicate. It's the deeper meaning behind the words.

Imagery

Poets use imagery or language that appeals to the 5 senses, to help readers visualize what they read. It creates the picture in the reader’s mind.
