audience.

Purpose
Definition:
The author’s reason or intent for
writing a text.
Example:
A company writes a slogan in order
to catch the attention of potential
customers.

Definition:
The author’s attitude toward
his subject (topic)
Example:
The tone of “A Raisin in the Sun” is somber.
The furniture is old and tired, and the
characters are tired which means their
aspirations are continually crushed.

Example:
