2

Heat energy is a form of energy that is transferred by a difference in temperature.

Heat energy flows from a warmer object to a cooler object.

What is heat energy?

3

Sources of Heat Energy

  • We can feel heat from many things.

  • We feel hot when the sun shines. This shows that the sun is a source of heat energy and gives out heat,

  • The sun is the main source of heat.

  • Most of the heat on Earth comes from the sun.

4

Rubbing or Friction

  • Rubbing two objects against each other can produce heat.

Rub your hands together for a few minutes and then touch your cheek. Your cheek will feel warm, showing that heat can be produced by friction.

5

Burning

  • Burning- When something is on fire.

  • When an object burns , it produces a flame that gives off heat.

  • Light a candle and put your hand above the candle. Your hand will feel hot, showing that burning substances can produce heat.

6

Electricity

  • Electricity- when electric currents flow through a wire, heat is produced.

  • Turn on a lamp for a few minutes and then hold your hand near the light bulb. Your hands can feel the heat coming from the light bulb.

  • Electricity can produce heat.

7

What is temperature?

Temperature is the measurement of the amount of heat energy is in something. (How hot or cold)

Temperature measures how fast an objects particles are moving.

The faster the particles are moving, the higher the temperature.

How is temperature measured?

Temperature is measured by using a thermometer.

A thermometer is a device that measures temperature.

9

What is the difference between fahrenheit and celcius?

Fahrenheit and celcius are two different scales that both measure temperature.

People in the United State typically use fahrenheit scale to measure temperature.
