What is Photography

Photo - Means Light

Graph - the process of writing or recording

4

Fill in the Blank

What are the THREE (3) things that we can change to control light without adding it?

-

5

media

We can control three (3) things on our cameras that control exposure. The Aperture, the ISO, and the Shutter Speed.

The Exposure Triangle

6

Match

Match the following

Shutter Speed

ISO

F-Stop

Controls the amount of time the sensor is exposed

Control how sensitive to light the sensor is

Controls how big the opening in the lens is to let light in

7

Hotspot

Where is the Shutter?

Where is the Shutter Release?

Lets talk about Shutter Speed!!

Shutter speed control how long the sensor is exposed to light, it is measured in fractions of a second like this: 1/100, 1/250. 1/5000, 1/8 or in special cases you might use {B} or BULB setting.

Slow shutter speed creates a feeling of fluid motion, blur and shows movement

Slow Shutter Speed

A fast shutter speed will help freeze motion, like in sports or to capture frozen motion like humming bird wing.

Fast Shutter Speed

Drag and Drop

What would you use a slow shutter speed for?
Drag these tiles and drop them in the correct blank above
Waterfalls
Low Light Situations
For Motion Blur
To Brighten Exposure
Light Streaks from Cars
a race
bright areas
to darken an exposure
to lighten an exposure

12

Fill in the Blank

To freeze motion I would want to use a...

13

media

ISO is how sensitive your "film" is to light, with digital cameras it is how sensitive the sensor is. The lower the number ISO, the less sensitive, the higher ISO the more sensitive

What is ISO?

14

media

Using a HIGH ISO would help in low-light situations.

Dark Areas

If your photo is overexposed try checking your ISO first.

Too Bright

High ISO comes with some issues, if your camera ISO is pushed too high it can cause grain.

Problems

15

Lets talk F-Stop or Aperture

The aperture is an opening in the lens

Depending on your F-Stop depends on how big the opening is. The lower the number the BIGGER the lens is open, the higher the opening the SMALLER the opening is

16

media

The aperture also helps control the Depth of Field, or DOF. The smaller the F-Stop, the shallower the DOF.

Aperture

17

Low F-Stop

Medium F-Stop

High F-Stop

Rules of Composition

Things to keep in mind when taking a photo

20

media

Rule of Thirds is BIG in 4-H.

Composition: Rule of Thirds

21

media

Composition: Fill the Frame

22

media

Composition: Leading Lines

23

media

Composition: Rule of Odds

24

Things to Remember

When choosing your fair display think of this

1) Is it in focus?

2) Is it exposed well?

3) Does it have good composition?

4) Does it tell a Story?

25

media

A sharp focus is very important in every image

Focus!

26

media

A good image starts with good exposure

Exposure!

27

media

Composure adds interest to the image, Rule of thirds, Leading Lines, Fill the Frame... all just a few of the different ways to compose an image

Stay Composed!
