A prefix is a group of letters that comes at the BEGINNING of a word and changes its meaning.

• Pre-: Before (examples: preorder, preview)

• Re-: To do again (examples: reuse, rebuild)

• Un-: To not be (examples: unlike, unable)

• Ex-: Out of or away from (examples: exhale, external)

• Dis-: not, opposite (examples: disrespect, disorder)

• Mis-: bad, wrong (examples: misplace, mistreat)

• Non-: not (examples: nonfiction, nonverbal)
