What is an Inference?

• An EDUCATED guess

• Using CLUES the author gives you

• Using what you already know (Schema)

• Figuring out what the author WANTS you to know, but doesn't tell you

The house is in the water.

There has been a natural disaster.

This is an unsafe place to be.

Three men are running.

The ocean waves are coming on shore.

This may be a hurricane.
