2

Decimal Operations

media
  • Addition: LINE UP the decimal, add the numbers like normal, but do NOT forget to bring down the decimal.

  • Subtraction: LINE UP the decimal, subtract the numbers like normal, but do NOT forget to bring down the decimal.

3

Decimal Operations

media
  • Multiplication: line up the last digit in each number (ignore the decimal), multiply as normal. Then, count from right to left the total number of decimal places in the factors combined to place the decimal!

  • Division: the divisor CANNOT be a decimal - move the decimal to the right as many times as needed to make it a whole number. However many times I move the decimal in the divisor I must also move the decimal in the dividend. Divide as normal, but be sure to bring up the decimal to the quotient when finished!

4

Multiple Choice

When multiplying decimals, how do you determine where to place the decimal in the answer?

1

Add the number of total decimal places in each of the factors.
