Ash Wednesday Facts:

Ashes are placed on our foreheads in a cross

Ashes symbolize​:

Penance or repentance - being sorry for our sins

Mourning - being sad about someone that has died

​Mortality - death or knowing we will all die someday

Day before Ash Wednesday - called Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday, or Marti Gras

This is the day before fasting so many people enjoy eating and drinking before a period of sadness and reflection.​

Holy Week - Final week before Easter

Palm Sunday - we receive blessed palms to represent Jesus coming into Jerusalem and people waving palms at him

Holy Thursday - Last Supper and when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. Jesus also gave the command to love one another.​

Good Friday - the day Jesus was crucified and died; Jesus was made to wear a crown of thorns to mock him as a king

Holy Saturday - we celebrate the Easter Vigil (also called Maundy Thursday)

Easter Sunday - the day of Jesus' Resurrection​
