EQ1.3 Fight or Flight Response

by Kyla Luksic

2

Autonomic nervous system (ANS)

Part of nervous system responsible for many functions in the body that occur "automatically"

The actions of the ANS take place completely beyond our conscious control.

Examples: digestion, heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature.

3

Sympathetic nervous system (SNS)

The part of the autonomic nervous system that responds to stressful situations by initiating the fight-or-flight response.

4

Parasympathetic nervous system (PNS)

The part of the autonomic nervous system that slows down body functions, activated when you relax or when SNS stimulated too long. Also called "rest and digest".

Multiple Choice

The autonomic nervous system is divided into

1

Motor and Sensory

2

Peripheral and Central

3

The Brain and Spinal cord

4

Sympathetic and Parasympathetic

6

Multiple Choice

Division of the Autonomic Nervous System that is FIGHT OR FLIGHT

1
sympathetic
2
parasympathetic

7

Multiple Choice

responds to stress and/ or danger

1

Sympathetic

2

Parasympathetic

8

Multiple Choice

Division of the Autonomic Nervous System (which is a subdivision of the Peripheral Nervous System) that is & REST AND DIGEST
1
sympathetic
2
parasympathetic

9

Multiple Choice

creates a "mass alert" to cause changes throughout the body simultaneously

1

Sympathetic

2

Parasympathetic

10

Multiple Choice

regulates daily homeostasis and maintenance

1

Sympathetic

2

Parasympathetic

11

Multiple Choice

You're giving a speech in front of the class (most of you would feel this)
1
sympathetic
2
parasympathetic

12

Multiple Choice

Feeling of calm
1
sympathetic
2
parasympathetic

13

Comparing the two systems

When the sympathetic nervous system is engaged, your body is entirely focused on what will help you either fight or run away quickly.

Some body functions will change to better help you in the fight or flight response.

Other functions of your body that are not immediately needed stop or slow way down.
