Comma Rules: Prepositional phrases at the beginning

Rule # 5: Use a comma after two or more introductory prepositional phrases.

Examples

• In the house on the corner, Sally lived with her parents. [in the house=prepositional phrase and on the corner=prepositional phrase] 

  
  

• In the garden by the shed, she planted tomatoes.

Note:  Use commas to avoid confusion.   

Example: Next to the school, houses were being constructed.
