Line Plots with Fractions
A line plot is a way to display data along a number line, where each dot or x represents one number in a set of numbers
2
Reading and Understanding the Components of a Line Plot
Identify the title
Identify the scaled intervals (whole numbers, fractions, or decimals)
Analyze the data represented with dots or X
3
Choosing the scale for a line plot.
We know a number line is from least to greatest. Look at the data. How should we label the number line?
Since the lowest length is 4 3/4 inches and the longest length is 6, the scale should be 4 to 6.
4 because it is the lowest whole number closest to 4 3/4 and 6 because the longest length, 6, is already a whole number.
