Public Speaking

• it is the act or process of speaking to a group of audience in a structured manner

THE FIRST RULES OF PUBLIC SPEECH BY ARISTOTLE (BC 384-322)

• Ethos - credibility of the speaker

• Pathos - logical arrangement of words

• Logos - ability to create connection between speaker and audience

Types of Speech Delivery:

• Prepared / Extemporaneous

• Impromptu

• Manuscript

• Memorized

TECHNIQUES IN PUBLIC SPEAKING

• Know your purpose - inform, persuade, or inspire

• Be familiar with your topic**

• Consider your audience

• Plan ahead of time**

• Use non-verbal cues

• Remain calm

• Practice

• Speak with clarity

• Use visuals when necessary.

• Know the essential etiquettes

• Dress comfortably, but appropriately
