What's a SENTENCE FRAGMENT?

  • A group of words that does not express a complete thought.

  • Usually, it is missing the subject or the predicated of the sentence (part of the noun or part of the verb).

  • Complete Sentence: When I was three, I visited DisneyWorld.

  • Sentence Fragment: When I was three.

How can we fix it?

  • To correct a fragment, make sure that the group of words has a subject and a verb and that it makes sense by itself.

  • Fragment: A novel that causes fear.

  • Sentence: Frankenstein is a novel that causes fear.

  • Fragment: Playing video games all night.

  • Sentence: My brother has been playing video games all night.
