1
The Sun, Earth, and Moon
The Sun, Earth, and Moon are all in sync with each other.
2
Learning Intention
I am learning to demonstrate the relationship of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, including orbits and positions.
3
Vocabulary
Sun- center of the solar system.
Earth- 3rd planet from the sun. Only planet with life.
Moon- orbits the Earth, is bigger than any dwarf planet.
Orbit- is a regular, repeating path that one object in space takes around another one.
4
Size of the Sun
The sun lies at the heart of the solar system, where it is by far the largest object. It holds 99.8 percent of the solar system's mass and is roughly 109 times the diameter of the Earth — about one million Earths could fit inside the sun.
5
The Earth
Earth, our home, is the third planet from the sun.
Water covers roughly 71 percent of Earth's surface, and most of that is in the oceans.
Earth orbits the Sun, at the same time rotates.
It takes the Earth 365 days to orbit the sun and 24 hours to complete one rotation.
92,956,050 miles from the sun
6
The Moon
The Moon orbits the Earth like the Earth orbits the sun.
It is a quarter the size of the Earth. So, it is smaller than the Earth.
