Used to make requests or give a command.

Ex. Do not enter.

Subjunctive Mood

is used to express unreal/imaginary/hypothetical conditions, importance, urgency,

wishes, or desire. The subjunctive is usually found in complex sentences.

Ex. I wish I could be a famous singer.

Subjunctive Mood Rules

  • Rule 1: Can be used with "if" to express a wish, want or desire. Ex. If only I could fly

  • Rule 2: usually used with “that” when expressing importance, wishes, or urgency. Ex. It is important that you write these down so you can review for the quiz.

  • Rule 3: remember that the word "that" can be omitted. Ex. Our teacher insists we do our homework.

Conditional Mood

Conditional mood is a form of subjunctive which is created with could or would.

Conditional expresses under which conditions something will happen. It usually uses “IF” with cause and effect.

Ex. If you yawn, I will yawn too.
