Step-1: Prewriting

  • Find your idea (Google, Imagination)

  • Build on your idea ( free writing or brainstorming)

  • Plan and structure (Outline)

Step-2: Writing/ Organizing

  • Just write

  • Just a draft

  • Eliminate distractions conducive for your writing

  • Get in the zone

Step-3: Revise

  • Rearrange/Remove: Consider the flow and sequencing of your story. Sometimes you will need to eliminate passages that don't quite fit.

  • Edit: check for repetition, clarity, grammar, spelling and punctuation

  • Re-Word: strengthen your word choice, no things and stuff

  • Show don't tell

Step-4: Peer Edits/ Conference

  • Peer Edit: The most effective way to measure your descriptions and imagery is to ask for a second opinion. Ask friends or fellow writers to take a look and give you feedback.

  • Give positive and specific feedback

  • Offer suggestions and possibilities

  • Look at ideas and details in the writing
