Today I will learn how to convert rational numbers into decimals

a RATIONAL NUMBER is a number that can be written as a ratio of two integers a and b, where b is not zero.

• EXAMPLES OF RATIONAL NUMBERS:  $\frac{4}{7}$  

• as is .37 because it can be written as a the fraction

   $\frac{37}{100}$  

• NOT AN EX:  $\frac{1}{0}$

HOW CAN WE CONVERT THIS RATIONAL # TO A DECIMAL?

1. Rewrite the fraction as a long division problem

2. Solve

You can use a calculator to convert a rational number to a decimal. 

You can also use long division. 

• EX:  $\frac{3}{4}$    $\rightarrow$     $3\div4$  = $4\sqrt{3}$  =  $0.75$
