Geometry is a new word. Makes it seem like it is hard to learn, but I know you guys are smart and can do it :)

Even though word geometry is new we have seen it before in.....

....shapes. That's right shapes are geometry

Name some shapes.

Shapes with straight sides are also called POLYGONS

A circle is round so it is not a polygon.

Next we will learn about perimeter.

(perimeter is distance around a shape)

Perimeter is the distance around a shape. To find perimeter you add up all the sides of the shape.

don't forget to also place the unit in your answer

What is the perimeter of this square?

the unit here is cm (centimeter)

16 cm

because 4+4+4+4 =16

If you notice all the sides of the SQUARE were the same number. This is because in squares all the sides are equal in length.

What is the perimeter of this rectangle?

the unit here is yd (yards)

14 yd

because 4+4+3+3= 14

What is the perimeter of this triangle?

the unit here is ft (feet)

18 ft

because 6+4+8=18
