The reason for Day and Night

Daytime is when you can see the sun from where you are, and it's light and heat can reach you. Nighttime is when the sun is on the other side of the Earth from you, and its light and heat does not get to you.

2

Day and Night

We have day and night on Earth because of the Earth's rotation.

Rotation = The spinning of an object in one place.

Always remember W.E. spin. Meaning we roate from West to East.

3

Day and Night

We know that it takes the Earth 24 hours to complete one full rotation.

The rotation of earths is relatively quick compared to the other planets.

This allows us to keep our tempertaures during day and night fairly close.

Multiple Choice

What does rotation mean?

1

Spinning in place

2

Moving around and object

3

The amount of light and heat produced

5

Multiple Choice

How long does it take for the Earth to complete one rotation?

1

17 hrs

2

21 hrs

3

23 hrs

4

24 hrs

6

Multiple Choice

One rotation of Earth is equal to
1
a day.
2
a year.

7

Revolution

  • As we have see when we studied our Solar System, the Earth Revloves around the sun. Just like how the moon revloves around Earth.

  • It takes the Earth 365.25 days to complete one full revoltuion.

  • Revolution means for something to orbit (go around) another object.

  • Gravity is the force that keeps planets and moon in orbit around other larger objects.

8

Revoltuion

Along with Earth's 365.25 revolution our Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees.

These two things acting together give us our seasons.

So we experience Winter, Summer, Spring and Fall because of the Resolution of Earth and its Tilt. (23.5 degrees)

Review

  • Our Earth Both Rotates and Revolves

  • Rotation takes 24 hours = 1 day

  • Revolution takes 365.25 days = 1 year

  • Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees

  • Earth's rotation causes day and night

  • Earths Revolution and its axial tilt causes our 4 seasons

The reason for Day and Night
