Many different materials are used to make the clothes you wear, the buildings you live in and everything you use each day. We make things out of materials with the properties that we need for a particular purpose.

Come in many different types, with different properties. Some are flexible, lightweight and easily shaped.

Is transparent and translucent. It is hard but very brittle. It can be coloured.

Can be natural (made from cotton or silk) or synthetic (made from other chemicals). Are tiny threads so they can be strong and bendy
