  • A sixteenth note is worth 1/4 of a beat.

  • Four sixteenth notes equal one beat.

Connections (Math): How can we find the fractional names of the notes?

  • Let's start with a whole note and use a piece of paper to represent that. Fold it in half, making half notes.

  • Fold it again, making quarters. (4 parts, each is 1/4th)

  • Fold it again and count the parts. (You have 8 sections, 1/8ths)

  • Fold the paper one more time. (There are 16 or 1/16th of the original whole!)
