2

Group I

These slides [3-6] are about types of matter that are natural

3

Matter

Matter is any object. There are three types of matter. Solid, liquid and gas. Matter is any substance that has mass and takes up space by having volume.

4

Solids

Solids are one type of matter. The molecules in a solid are closely packed together and contain the least amount of kinetic energy. A solid is characterized by structural rigidity and resistance to a force applied to the surface

5

Liquids

Liquids are another type of matter

A liquid is a nearly incompressible fluid that conforms to the shape of its container but retains a constant volume independent of pressure. As such, it is one of the four fundamental states of matter, and is the only state with a definite volume but no fixed shape.

6

Gas

Gas is a state of matter too. Gas has the most kinetic energy and it escapes quickly from a container or object. There are a few molecules in a gas so they spread in the gas.

Group II

These slides [11-14] are about types of matter that are man-made

11

Plasmas

Plasma is one of the other fundamental states of matter, and was first described by chemist Irving Langmuir in the 1920s. It consists of a gas of ions – atoms which have some of their orbital electrons removed – and free electrons.

12

Fermionic Condensates

A fermionic condensate or Fermi-Dirac condensate is a superfluid phase formed by fermionic particles at low temperatures. It is closely related to the Bose–Einstein condensate, a superfluid phase formed by bosonic atoms under similar conditions.

13

Bose-Einstein Condansates

In condensed matter physics, a Bose–Einstein condensate is a state of matter which is typically formed when a gas of bosons at low densities is cooled to temperatures very close to absolute zero.
