We use feet and inches to measure length or height!

THERE ARE 12 INCHES IN 1 FOOT

If there are 12 inches in one foot we need to know the multiples of 12.

12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96, 108, 120, 132, 144....

How tall are you?

Chances are your height is a combination of feet and inches, like 5 feet 6 inches or 6 feet 1 inch.

My height is 68 inches. But it is easier to say 5 feet 8 inches.

The 8 inches just means that after we divided by 12, there were inches remaining that couldn't make up one more whole foot.

To find length or height that is expressed in only inches we first take that number of feet and divide it by 12.

Let's say someone is 74 inches tall. Use the 12 times table on the right to see how close you can get to 74 without going over.

The number of feet would be 6. The leftover inches would make up 2.

Therefore, this person is 6 feet 2 inches tall.

We can abbreviate the feet and inches with these marks.
