Battling over Clayoquot big trees

1993, the largest act of civil disobedience in Canadian history played out along a beautiful seacoast.

at the foot of some of the world’s largest trees. At Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, environmentalists blocked logging trucks, chanted slogans, sang songs, and even chained themselves to trees. Loggers complained that the protesters were keeping them from making a living, and, eventually, 850 of the 12,000 protesters were arrested. But this misty, seaside forest had become ground zero in the debate over how we manage forested lands.
