Pop Shop: 30% off (minimum spend £80)
Townsman: 25% off (minimum spend £70)
If you spend the minimum amount, which shop is the cheapest?
(no calculator)
Back
Hint:
For out the discount using simple percentages.
To work out 30%, first find 10% (÷ 10) then multiply by 3.
To work out 25%, you can divide by 4, as it is the same as 1/4. Or you can work out 10%, divide 10% by 2 to have 5%, the add 2 x 10% and 5%
Don't forget to subtract the discount from the minimum amount.

Answers:
30% of £80:
10% is 8
so 30% is 24
80 - 24 = £56
25% of 70:
70 ÷ 4 = 17.5
70 - 17.5 = £52.50
Townsman is cheapest.
