Description (structure)

A prose account that is made up rather than true.

Figurative language (figures of speech)

Words or phrases that describe one thing in terms of another and are not meant to be understood as literally true.

A part of a story, poem, or play that presents events that happened at an earlier time.

Character used as a contrast to another character.

A story passed from one generation to another by word of mouth; often involves ordinary people or animals.

The use of clues or hints to suggest events that will occur later in the plot.

Opens and closes with the telling of one story, which forms a frame; within that story is another story.

Poetry that does not use regular rhyme, meter, or stanza division; may contain irregular line breaks and sentence fragments.
