Relative Density Formula

Fluid Pressure Formula

$$P\ =\ \rho gh$$ where: p = density (Pa) g = gravitational accelaration (m/s 2 ) h = height (m)

Properties of Fluid Pressure

forces exerted by a fluid on the walls of its container are always perpendicular fluid pressure is directly proportional to the depth of the fluid and to its density At any particular depth, the fluid pressure is the same in all directions Fluid pressure is independent of the shape or area of its container

Pressure due to water formula

$$\Delta P\ =\ \rho g\Delta h$$

Total Pressure Formula

$$P_{total}=P_{atm}+\rho gh$$ Where: P atm = atmospheric pressure p = density g = gravitational acceleration h = height

an external pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted uniformly throughout the volume of the liquid pressure in = pressure out

Hydraulic Pressure Formula

$$\frac{F_{in}}{A_{out}}=\frac{F_{out}}{A_{in}}$$ just derive the formula of what is missing Area of a circle: $$\pi\left(r\right)^2$$

Archimedes' Principle

The magnitude of the buoyant force on an object always equals the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. or An object that is completely or partially submerged in a fluid experiences an upward buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.

Two ways of determining the buoyant force

Fluid displacement method & loss of mass method

Buoyant Force Formula (Fluid Displacement Method)

In this method, the object is fully submerged. $$F_B=\left(\rho_fg\right)V_{displaced}$$

Buoyant Force Formula (Loss of Mass Method)

In this method, the block is weighed in air and then while it is fully submerged in different types of fluid. $$B_2=W_1-W_2$$ Where: B 2 is the buoyant force W 1 is the weight of obj in air W 2 is the weight of obj in fluid

$$T\ =\ W\ F_B$$ where: W = weight F B = Buoyant Force

$$\frac{\left|B_2-B_1\right|}{\frac{1}{2}\left(B_1+B_2\right)}\times100$$ Where: B 1 = buoyant force using fluid displacement method B 2 = buoyant force using the loss of mass method

Temperature Conversion Formula

Celsius to Fahrenheit $$T_F=\frac{9}{5}T_C+32$$ Fahrenheit to Celsius $$T_C=\frac{5}{9}\left(T_F-32\right)$$

Solids Thermal Expansion

the particles are not free to move. solids do not expand much

Liquids Thermal Expansion

particles move more freely than solids. liquids usually expand more than solids

Gases Thermal Expansion

particles are far apart and move more freely than liquids. gases usually expands more than liquids

Linear Expansion Formula

$$\Delta L=\propto L_0\Delta T$$ If rod has length at a initial temperature, then you can use: $$L=L_0\left(1+\propto\Delta T\right)$$

Constant of Coefficient of linear expansion

$$\propto=10^{-5}\ \ per\ C\degree$$ for metals

Different types of Heat Transfer

conduction, convection, radiation

Transfer of heat energy in a gas or liquid by means of currents in the heated fluid The fluid moves carrying energy with it

transfer of energy at the speed of light through electromagnetic waves Radiant energy - energy that is so radiated in a form of electromagnetic waves Dark, rough surfaces absorb more radiant energy and produce heat. Light, smooth materials reflect radiant energy and produce less heat
